Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 single-day count in Odisha breached 8000-mark for the second time in three days when 8,681 people tested positive for Coronavirus infection and 14 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, informed a data released by the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department on Friday.

It may be noted that the State had reported 8,386 on April 28 and 6,998 cases on April 29, respectively. Today’s figure is the highest one-day surge since the break of the pandemic in the State.

With this, the positive tally in the State surged to 4,44,194‬ while the death toll stood at 2,043. Odisha currently has 61,698 cases, while 3,80,400 patients have recovered from the disease, added the H&FW Department.

Of the new cases reported from 30 districts, 4948 were detected from various quarantine centres, and the rest 3,733 were detected during contact tracing, said a data released by the State Information and Public Relations Department.

Three each deaths were registered in Koraput and Sundargarh, two each in Rayagada and Khordha, and one each in Sambapur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Ganjam, informed the State H&FW Department.

Khordha district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of new cases at 1,408, followed by Sundergarh at 745, Cuttack at 570, Puri 514.

At least 19 other districts recorded more than 100 cases. Those are- Balangir (459), Bargarh (423), Angul (419), Jharsuguda (411), Sambalpur (410), Nabarangpur (368), Jajpur (321), Nuapada (304), Mayurbhanj (220), Ganjam (198), Kalahandi (195), Nayagarh (160), Balasore (155), Rayagada (151), Keonjhar (148) Gajapati (125), Koraput (113), Bhadrak (103) and Deogarh (102).

Other districts which reported less than 100 cases are- Sonepur (98), Kendrapada (85), Boudh (57), Kandhamal (54), Malkangiri (34), Dhenkanal (33) and Jagatsinghpur (21).

As many as 1,00,86,656 samples were tested in the state so far, including 45,452on Thursday. The coastal state’s positivity rate stands at 4.4 per cent.
