Ahead of the three-day Raja festivities which begins on Monday, the Southwest Monsoon covered entire Odisha on Sunday. As a result, several parts of the State continue to experience heavy rainfall under its influence, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

A yellow warning has been sounded by the IMD predicting rain and thunderstorm in several parts of the State in the next 24 hours. As per IMD, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 -50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal till June 15.

“The low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal persists. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwest wards with height. It is likely to move west-northwest wards across Odisha, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh during next 2-3 days,” said the IMD .

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore , Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri.

Day-1: (Valid upto 0830 Hrs IST of 14.06.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at most places over the districts north Odisha and many places over the districts of south Odisha.

Bhubaneswar: Grappling with sizzling heatwave, the State may get some respite due to thunderstorm and rainfall activities from tomorrow as predicted by the weather department.

The onshore winds entering the State coast would trigger rain and thunder storm, weather expert Umashankar Dash said.

Under the impact of the sea breeze, the heat wave condition is likely to decrease in several places of the State.

“Yellow warning has been issued to nine districts including Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam where light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning is expected to occur,”

“Low to moderate rain is likely to occur at the periphery districts. The intensity of the rain may go up to 10 to 20 MM at some places, he added.

The rain and thunderstorm with hailstorms will continue up to day 4. The impact of the thunderstorm is likely to lessen from day 5, he added.

On Tuesday, six places had reported temperature above 42 degree Celsius with Boudh emerging the hottest at 43.1 C.

Places which had witnessed above 40 degree c on Tuesday are Boudh (43.1), Angul (42.7), Titilagarh (42.5), Baripada (42.5), Balangir (42.4), Talcher (42.3), Sonepur (41.8), Bhubaneswar (41.7), Jharsuguda (41), Nayagarh (41). Sambalpur (41), Sundergarh (41), and Bhawanipatna (41)

Bhubaneswar: Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Khordha and Balasore in the next 24 hours, predicted India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

As per IMD, The North-South trough now runs from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to south coastal Odisha. The cyclonic circulation over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood has become less marked.

“Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Khorda and Balasore in the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is likely to fall thereafter by around 2 degree Celsius over the districts of Coastal Odisha,” said IMD in a release.

Apart from this, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nayagarh and Kalahandi in the next 24 hours.

Bhubaneswar: It was another day of sweltering heat for almost the entire Odisha as temperature breached the highest mark of 43.2 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar, the State Capital city recording the maximum day time temperature in the State for the second consecutive day.

Bhubaneswar registered a 5.3-degree surplus departure from the average temperature, while three towns Boudh, Baripada and Titlagarh witnessed more than 42 degree Celsius.

Temperature breached 40-degree mark in as many as 17 towns in the State today. Jharsuguda with 41.8 degrees, Sambalpur and Nayagarh 41.5, Bolangir 41.2, Talcher 41.1 degree Celsius were some other weather stations where mercury jumped above 40 degrees.

The India Meteorological Department has informed that there has been a rise in the day time temperature in the State due to ingress of dry winds from west and north west direction.

The maximum temperature (Day temperature) very likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degree C at many places over the districts of interior Odisha during next 2-3 days and no large change thereafter, the IMD said in its latest bulletin.

Maximum temperature (Day temperature) will be above normal by 3-5 degree C at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha during next 48 hours and it will fall gradually by 2-3 degree C thereafter, the weather forecast body informed in its bulletin.

Bhubaneswar: After a brief spell of thunderstorm activities, Odisha seemed to have turned into a burning hot cauldron on Saturday with as many as 12 places recording temperature above 40 degree Celsius.

As per the latest bulletin released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar emerged as the hottest with 42.1 degree c temperature followed by Boudh which recorded 42 degree Celsius.

Some other towns which recorded temperature above 40 degrees are Angul (40.3), Baripada (41.6), Jharsuguda (40.5), Sambalpur (41),Talcher (40.1), Bhawanipatna (40.0), Bolangir (40.3), Titilagarh (41.0), Sonepur (41.8), and Nayagarh (40.0).

Similarly, the places which recorded below 40 degrees were Balasore (38.6), Chnadabali (39.2), Cuttack (39.8), Paradip (32.9), Gopalpur (33.6), Keonjhar (36.8), Puri (33.8), Sundergarh (39.5), Hirakud (39.5), Koraput (35.4), Phulbani (39), Malkangiri (38.0), Daringbadi (35.5), Chhatrapur (34.5), Paralakhemundi (37.5), Rayagada (38.5).

The Met department has predicted maximum day temperature to rise by 2-3 degree C at many places in the State in next two-three days.

Bhubaneswar and its periphery areas would remain mainly clear sky and clowdy sky during afternoon and evening respectively. The temperature would likely hover around 41 degrees Celcius, the IMD bulletin stated.
